lauren s: CHS Class of 2022

I closed out my Class of 2022 senior sessions with one of my favorites, Lauren from CHS.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way, though.

Lauren’s first senior session was scheduled for the fall of 2021. We were prepped and ready to go, and then…bad weather.

Not a problem, let’s move on to the backup date.

Guess what? Bad weather again.

Thus began the dance of rescheduling her session.

Fast forward to spring 2022.

The flowers were blooming, the skies were blue, and there was still a bit of a chill in the air; her session day was spring at its greatest.

Can we talk about the difference between an early morning session and a sunset session for a second?

Skip ahead if that doesn’t interest you, but it’s my site, so I declare that this conversation is happening.

(Note: These are my experiences with the two session times. Not all photographers will feel the same way or have the same experiences. So, let’s chat the CHP way.)

Early morning (but not sunrise) sessions:

  1. The light is bright, but not overwhelming. This means you’ll have well lit photos and are perfect for those that like a bright and airy look to their photos.

  2. Especially great in the summertime when the weather is cooler in the morning than it is in the evening.

  3. Doing your session early in the day allows you to enjoy the rest of your day and have the evening to yourself.

Golden hour sunset sessions:

  1. The light is often warm and full sun photos are much easier. (It’s important to remember though that not all golden hours are created equal.)

  2. More ideal for those who like moodier portraits.

  3. One downside is that cloudy days, we do lose the light faster and sessions may have to be shorter than we planned.

Back to business as usual.

For the end of our session at the courthouse, Lauren threw on a hat that went along with the adorable dress that she bought for graduation. For a spring session, this couldn’t have been more perfect. I don’t like hats for an entire session, but for a few photos, it lends itself to an interesting session and always leads to some super cute portraits.

See that gorgeous light behind her? That’s morning sun. You won’t get that look in the evening!

I love the mustard color of shirt in the final, more casual outfit that Lauren chose for her session. Not everyone can pull off that color, but she definitely can.

By this time, the sun was starting to get pretty high overhead so we were starting to get limited on great spots for photos. But, we weren’t deterred, we walked around and found some great spots and managed to round out her session perfectly. Then, with her session complete, she and her mom were off to grab some lunch at the Wood Duck. What better way to start the day than that?
